A
pottery chawan...
A pottery chawan
(teabowl), of straight-sided winter type, decorated to the
exterior with a flecked, mottled dark brown glaze on its
ridged surface, and the interior with a random band of ink-detailed,
cream glazed plum blossoms on a caramel glaze ground.
The signature, Kozan, in ink on a white cartouche to the
exterior, pays stylistic homage to that of Ogata Kenzan;
and the original signed and sealed wood box entitles the
teabowl "Flying Plum, after Kenzan".
Miyagawa Kozan - Circa 1880.
Height: 3 3/4 inches, 9.5 cm.
