Kokusai The Genius and Stag-antler carving in Japan

3rd - 12th November, 2016

Sydney L. Moss Ltd. will be exhibiting works from its new set of publications on Kokusai, the eccentric storyteller and carver of stag-antler who epitomised life in downtown Tokyo in the mid to late 19th century, as Japan found itself transitioning between the shogunal rule of the Edo period and the new, westernised, Meiji era.

In addition to works by Kokusai, the gallery will also have works in stag-antler by his antecedents and refined works by those who followed, and were influenced by, the Genius of Stag-antler Carving.

During this period the walls of the gallery will show a selection of Japanese hanging scrolls representing painting and calligraphy.

Monday to Friday 10am - 5:30pm
